February 20

I hope you have all been enjoying your snowy days!

This week students will begin working on a data and graphing project.  They will work in partners to ask a question, develop categories for answers, and then ask other second graders for their responses. Students will then analyze their data, create graphs, and develop questions for others to answer about their data.

In writing we will work to make our opinion writing stronger, longer, and more convincing! Students will be moving from single page letter writing to writing across letter booklets.  They will use evidence from their text and read more closely to develop their opinions.

In reading we will continue to learn about literary language.  Students will be asked "What does the author want me to feel?"  When reading at home, encourage your student to share with you the strong literary language they are finding in their texts.  And of course, send it in to share with the class!

Have a safe and healthy vacation next week!

Happy 100th day of school!

This week we began our new reading unit.  Students will work on developing their reading voices, scooping up phrases, and reading dialogue.

We also began our new writing unit.  This week we are focusing on writing letters about our favorite book characters.

We are wrapping up our unit on Multi-digit addition.  Ask your student about the different strategies they have to solve multi-digit addition problems.
