The students' multi-digit addition math games turned out great! They enjoyed playing them with Mrs. Dunham's students on Friday.

This week we will celebrate our unit on Fairy tales.  Students will be creating trading cards of characters from the books they have read.

We will also be celebrating our unit on Realistic Fiction writing.  Students will revise, fancy up, and edit one of their stories to share.

Please keep reading at home nightly and talking about what you are reading.

Students are putting their finishing touches on their Multi-Digit Addition Board games.  We will have our first trial run with Mrs. Dunham's class on Friday.

We have been getting a kick out of idioms and similes!  The students' brains are growing like weeds :).  If you find any similes or idioms in your reading through out the week, jot it down and bring it in to share.

The students began using dialogue in their writing to bring their characters to life.  The are making mind movies to imagine each step of their story.

Our new year is off to a great start! Students have been working with their math partners to create board games incorporating multi-digit addition.  We have been focusing on multiple strategies to solve multi-digit addition problems.  Next week we will build on what we have learned by re-grouping 10 ones when needed and 10 tens when needed.

The students have been busy being actors and directors during our Fairy Tales, Folktales, and Fantasy unit.  Students have been studying characters' strong emotions, personalities, and even magic!

You will never believe what these second graders are doing . . . they are writing gripping, edge of your seat, realistic fiction stories! Be sure to ask your student about some of the stories they have been creating.

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a safe and relaxing vacation.

This week we will be jumping into the world of fairy tales, folktales, fables, and fantasy! Students will be reading to understand character's feelings and make pictures in their minds to the fantasy worlds.

In writing, we will begin writing gripping fictional stories. Students will learn two strategies they can use to generate story ideas, as well as, focusing on writing fictional small moments.

We will use our understanding of place value and basic facts to begin our Multi-digit Addition Module.
